Math Resources

Math, Math, Math!

This year at Lattie Coor, we are focusing on adding more opportunities for students to be involved in Number Sense.  One expectation that we have set campus-wide is a Mad Math Minute time each day where students practice their math fluency through addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts.  It is our goal for students to have these facts mastered by memory in a certain amount of time.

How can you help at home?

*  Provide opportunities for your child to be involved in counting at a quick pace (by 1's, 2's, 3's, 4's, 5's, so on...).

*  Use flashcards to quiz your child on their facts.

*  Use the Mad Minute fluency pages to time your child or create your own.

*  Participate in family games that you can play with your child to help support math concepts and numbers.

*  Look at the grade level standards to see what your child is learning about at school this year.

*  Ask your child to explain their math homework:

*  How did you get to that answer?
*  Why do you think that answer is correct?
*  Explain this problem to me.
*  Show me your work of how you got the answer.
        *  How can you solve this problem?

*  Use the internet as a resource!  See some of the links below to get some ideas of how to create more math opportunities in your home.
